As part of Kingston Cub Scout Pack 49’s yearly celebration of Veterans Day, Kingston Bear Den 1 hosted guest speaker Jim Crowl at their last meeting. Crowl is a Kingston World War II Air Force veteran who flew over 70 missions during the bombing raids against the oil refineries in Ploesti, Romania. During one of these raids in 1944, his airplane was shot down and he was held as a prisoner of war. Jim presented a video documentary to the Cub Scouts highlighting the importance and danger of the missions he flew. Crowl answered many questions from the Cub Scouts and his presentation helped reinforce the importance of Veterans Day.
Pack 49, Boy Scout Troop 199, and several Kingston Girl Scouts held a Veterans Day celebration for the senior citizens at the Inn at Silver Lake. The participating Scouts performed a flag ceremony, led the seniors in the Pledge of Allegiance, God Bless America and the National Anthem. The Scouts took turns at the microphone and spoke about the importance of Veterans Day.
